Po’ Girl

The beauty and mystery of Po Girl's music – a sound that has beguiled fans the world over - springs from the dynamic, improbable, mesmerizing bond shared by its two principal singers and writers – Allison Russell and Awna Teixeira. Their music has been compared with that of The Band, Hazel Dickens, Tracy Chapman, Natalie Merchant, Elizabeth Cotton and Norah Jones. It showcases melodies from instruments as diverse as banjo, clarinet, harmonica, dobro, accordion, gutbucket bass.

"Their uplifting take on American folk music, combining it with Jazz, roots and a little bit of pretty much everything else, has the ability to put a smile on anyone's face." - Glasgow Americana Festival, May 2009

“...a veritable force of nature with a sound that alludes to country, blues, jazz, gospel and folk without falling squarely in any one of those categories”  - Jeff Wisser
